Ban Luck (also known as Chinese Blackjack or 21 Points) is the quintessential Chinese New Year card game played across Malaysia, Singapore, and Southeast Asia. Unlike Western Blackjack, Ban Luck features special hands with multiplied payouts — a "Ban-Ban" (two Aces) pays 3x, a "Free Hand" (5 cards under 21) pays 2x, and the coveted "Ban Luck" (natural 21 with an Ace + face card) pays 2x. The banker rotates each round, making it a social, high-energy game perfect for family gatherings and festive celebrations.
How to Play Ban Luck
The banker deals 2 cards to each player and themselves
Players check for special hands (Ban Luck, Ban-Ban, 5 Dragons)
If no special hand, players can "hit" to draw more cards or "stand"
The goal is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over
Aces can be worth 1, 10, or 11 — offering strategic flexibility
The banker settles with each player individually — higher hand wins
