What Is Rummy?
Rummy is one of the most widely played card game families in the world. Players draw and discard cards to form melds (sets of matching rank or runs of consecutive cards in the same suit). The game ends when one player "goes out" by melding all their cards. Remaining players score penalty points for unmatched "deadwood" cards. In Gin Rummy, going out with zero deadwood ("Gin") earns a bonus. PartyPot tracks deadwood penalties and running scores across multiple rounds.
How to Play Rummy
Each player receives 7-10 cards depending on the variant
Players take turns drawing from the deck or discard pile
Form melds: sets (3-4 cards of same rank) or runs (3+ consecutive cards of same suit)
Lay off cards onto existing melds when possible
Knock or go out when your deadwood (unmatched cards) is low enough
In Gin Rummy: Gin (0 deadwood) = 25 bonus points; undercut = 25 bonus
Loser's deadwood value minus winner's deadwood value = round score
